← Where to stay in Dresden

In short

The Neustadt sits on the north bank of the Elbe, directly opposite the Altstadt, and is Dresden's bohemian, creative quarter. The Inner Neustadt is more polished while the Outer Neustadt is packed with bars, independent shops, cafés and street art that come alive after dark. It suits younger travellers, night owls and anyone wanting an alternative, local buzz.

The lively Outer Neustadt fans out around streets like Alaunstraße and Louisenstraße, dense with courtyards, murals and small venues, while the Inner Neustadt near Königstraße is more elegant and boutique-lined. Days are relaxed and café-focused; nights are the main event, with a high concentration of bars within walking distance.

Getting around

Cross the Augustus Bridge on foot to reach the Frauenkirche in around 15–20 minutes, or take a tram. Dresden-Neustadt station handles regional and long-distance trains, and the S-Bahn links to Dresden Airport (DRS).
