In short

Kamari lies on the southeast coast of Santorini, away from the caldera cliffs. It has a long black-sand beach backed by a promenade of tavernas and shops, plus flatter, more walkable terrain — a practical, family-friendly base that's also very close to the airport.

The resort centres on its beachfront promenade, which runs the length of the sand and comes alive with restaurants and cafes in the evening. Below the towering Mesa Vouno headland, it has a straightforward, laid-back seaside-resort feel rather than dramatic cliff views.

Getting around

Kamari is well connected by bus to Fira, from where you transfer for Oia and other villages, and it's only about a 5–10 minute drive from the airport (JTR). The flat layout makes it easy to get around on foot.

Frequently asked

Is Kamari good for families?

Yes — the flat terrain, long beach and promenade of tavernas make it one of the more practical bases for families with children.

Can you see the famous sunset from Kamari?

No — Kamari faces east, so you get sunrises over the sea; for the classic caldera sunset you'd travel to Oia or Fira.
