Gare is the district around Luxembourg City's central railway station, south of the old town. Busier and more workaday than the historic core, it offers the widest range of eateries and the strongest onward connections by train and tram, making it the go-to base for budget-minded visitors and those moving on quickly.
The area radiates from the main station along Avenue de la Liberté and Avenue de la Gare toward the plateau. It's densely commercial with international restaurants and shops, energetic and functional by day and evening rather than scenic — and, like many station areas, patchier in feel on some streets.
Getting around
The tram and frequent buses connect the station to the Old Quarters in minutes, all fare-free nationally; trains link the region and beyond, and Findel (LUX) is a direct bus ride of around 25 minutes.
