In short

Avenida da Liberdade is Lisbon's grand, tree-lined boulevard running uphill from the edge of Baixa to the Marquês de Pombal roundabout. Lined with designer boutiques, theatres and larger properties, it's upscale, convenient and well connected. It suits visitors who want comfort, space and easy transport, with a short downhill walk into the historic centre.

The wide avenue has shaded pavements and mosaic walkways, ending at the Marquês de Pombal roundabout and the green expanse of Eduardo VII Park above it. By day it's a mix of shopping, business and strolling; evenings are refined and calm compared with the old quarters. It feels more spacious and modern than medieval Lisbon.

Getting around

It's an easy walk downhill to Baixa, and the riverside trams from there reach Belém Tower. Metro stations along the avenue (Avenida, Marquês de Pombal, Restauradores) connect directly to Humberto Delgado (LIS) in around 20 minutes.
