Risan is an old town further up the Bay of Kotor, one of the oldest settlements on the coast and home to well-known Roman mosaics. Set among quiet coves at the head of the bay, it suits travellers with a car who prefer scenery and space over nightlife.
The town is set back from the busiest tourist flow, with a modest waterfront, historic sites and calm bathing spots nearby. It's spacious and low-key day and night, and staying here means treating the drive along the bay's dramatic shoreline as part of the appeal.
Getting around
A car is essential — the Old Town walls are roughly a 20–30 minute drive along the bay, and Tivat Airport (TIV) is around 40–50 minutes; buses along the coast road are an alternative but far less flexible.
