In short

The Mercado Central area covers the inland city blocks around Alicante's covered market and main shopping streets. It's an everyday, local and well-connected part of town, with the seafront centre a short walk away — a practical, down-to-earth base for budget-conscious visitors.

The grand Mercado Central building anchors the district, surrounded by shops, cafés and residential streets rather than tourist sights. It's flat and walkable, busy and workaday by day around the market, and generally quieter and more residential in the evenings.

Getting around

The Explanada, port and Old Town are an easy flat walk, and the TRAM and buses are close by. Alicante–Elche (ALC) is about 10–15 km away via the C-6 airport bus from the centre or a taxi.
