In short

Casco Antiguo is Alicante's historic quarter, a maze of narrow streets climbing toward Santa Bárbara Castle. Packed with tapas bars, terraces and late-night spots, it's the most atmospheric and sociable place to stay — best for visitors who want nightlife on their doorstep.

Whitewashed lanes, small squares and the Concatedral de San Nicolás define the quarter, with the castle rising directly above. It's compact and walkable but hilly in parts; quiet and pretty by day, it becomes busy and loud once the bars get going at night.

Getting around

You're already at the foot of the castle, with pedestrian access and a lift nearby, and the seafront and Explanada are a short downhill walk. Alicante–Elche (ALC) is about 10–15 km away via the C-6 airport bus from the centre or a taxi.
