← Where to stay in Verona

In short

Città Antica is Verona's walled historic core, wrapped by a loop of the river Adige and home to the Arena, Piazza Bra, Piazza delle Erbe and Juliet's House. It's the most convenient base for a first visit, with nearly every major sight reachable on foot. The trade-off is that it's the busiest and most touristed part of the city.

The area centres on Piazza Bra with the Arena at its edge, running north along the pedestrian shopping street Via Mazzini to Piazza delle Erbe and Piazza dei Signori. Streets are largely pedestrianised and easy to explore day or evening, though the core stays lively and can be crowded around the main squares and during Arena performances.

Getting around

Everything of note is within a 10–15 minute walk, so you rarely need transport inside the walls. For Catullo (VRN), take the airport bus from Verona Porta Nuova station, roughly a 20-minute walk or short bus ride from Piazza Bra.
