Old Town (Vanalinn) is Tallinn's UNESCO-listed medieval heart, ringed by defensive walls and filled with cobbled lanes, spires and squares. It suits first-time visitors and sightseers who want to be inside the landmark itself and walk everywhere.
The district splits into the lower town, centred on Town Hall Square (Raekoja plats), and the upper Toompea hill, home to Toompea Castle and Alexander Nevsky Cathedral.
