← Where to stay in Strasbourg

In short

Krutenau is Strasbourg's relaxed student and nightlife quarter, just southeast of the Grande Île across the river. With bars, cafés and a local, unpretentious feel, it suits younger travellers who want energy in the evenings while staying an easy walk from the centre.

The neighbourhood spreads around lively streets near the university and the Musée d'Art Moderne, with plenty of small eateries and drinking spots. It's residential and easygoing by day, then comes alive after dark with a younger crowd.

Getting around

The Old Town and cathedral are a short walk across the Ill, and Petite France is easily reached on foot. Trams serve the area for the main station and the Strasbourg (SXB) shuttle connection.
