In short

The Hotel Zone, or Zona Hoteleira, is a cluster of accommodation on the clifftops just west of the city centre, known for its ocean panoramas. It's quieter and more relaxed than the Old Town while remaining a short trip from the sights, making it a favourite for couples and those prioritising a sea view. The feel is comfortable and resort-oriented rather than historic.

The area strings along the coast beyond Santa Catarina Park and the marina, with many buildings perched above the water and seafront promenades below. It links into the coastal walkway that runs west towards the Lido, good for strolls. Days revolve around pools, terraces and the promenade; evenings are calm, with hotel bars and a handful of restaurants rather than a street scene.

Getting around

The city centre and marina are a 15–25 minute walk east along the seafront, or a short bus or taxi ride. Cristiano Ronaldo Airport (FNC) is roughly 25–35 minutes by car, with taxis, transfers and airport buses serving the zone.

Frequently asked

Can I walk into town from the Hotel Zone?

Yes — a scenic seafront promenade leads east to the marina and centre in roughly 15–25 minutes, though there are some inclines.

Do I get a proper beach here?

Not a sandy one; the shore is rocky and cliff-backed, so expect promenade bathing complexes, lidos and pools rather than a beach.
